JULY 19TH AUCTION
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/20/2013
Lot of (4) signed vintage baseball autographs. This lot includes signed index cards of Satchel Paige, Jim Bottomley, and Billy Evans and a signed postcard of Hall of Famer George Sisler. The Bottomley signature was signed in March of 1936 in Pencil and is a tough signature to find, as he passed away in 1959. Billy Evans, also an extremely rare signature, signed this card boldly in blue. Evans was the youngest umpire in the history of baseball at age 22 as well as the youngest to ever ump a World Series game at the tender age of 25. Evans, who was involved in an infamous bloody fistfight with Ty Cobb during a 1921 game, retired from umping in 1927 and passed away in 1956. Evans became the third umpire elected to the Hall of Fame in 1973. The Satchel Paige 3x5 features a strong black autograph. There is a small stain on the left of his signature and two of the back corners are taped. This does not effect the signature in any way. George Sisler has signed this postcard boldly in blue pen. The card was postmarked July 29, 1963 from St.Louis. All four signatures have been pre-certified by PSA/DNA.
