Hall of Fame ace Gaylord Perry wore this brown and yellow San Diego Padres road jersey during the 1978 and 1979 MLB seasons. Perry was at his finest in 1978, claiming the National League Cy Young award with a 21-6 record and 2.73 ERA. This was Perry’s second Cy after winning the American League award in 1972 with the Cleveland Indians. Thanks to Perry’s excellent pitching at the top of the rotation, the Padres finished with their first-ever winning record in 1978. Perry had a solid season in 1979, recording a 12-11 record with a 3.06 ERA, retiring after the 1983 season with 314 wins to his name, and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1991.

This pullover jersey has a brown body with yellow sleeves and shoulders. “San Diego Padres” is sewn on the chest in yellow tackle twill, while Perry’s number “36” is sewn on the chest and back in yellow tackle twill. “PERRY” is sewn across the back shoulders in yellow tackle twill over a matching brown nameplate. The collar of this jersey is cut slightly to facilitate easier breathing for Perry. A Wilson size “46” tag is sewn on the back inside collar. A “36 78” swatch is sewn on the front left tail. The 1978 All-Star Game patch has been removed from the left sleeve, indicating that Perry wore this jersey for his only two seasons in San Diego in 1978 and 1979. Perry has signed the front of this jersey in silver marker. This jersey displays moderate game use and comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA for the signature, along with a LOA from MEARS for the game use and has been graded a perfect A10.
