Offered here is a fresh and fascinating entry into noted sports artist Arthur Miller’s fantastic “A Baseball Card That Never Was” series. This entry, created in 2018, shows the fictional superstar Roy Hobbs from the beloved film (and book) The Natural painted to resemble a 1948 Leaf baseball card. Hobbs, played by Robert Redford in the 1984 film, is shown in his New York Knights home uniform. A red block is located near the bottom border of this canvas artwork, with “Roy Hobbs” standing out in white lettering. This canvas measures 24 x 29 inches. Miller has signed the upper right-hand corner of the front of this canvas and lower reverse side as well. “A Baseball Card That Never Was: Roy Hobbs (1948 Leaf) 2018” is written on the reverse side of this canvas.
