This base was used as first base during the seventh through ninth innings of the New York Mets 5-3 home win over the San Diego Padres on August 7th, 2008. David Wright handed the Mets the victory with the first walk-off homer of his career, a two-run shot to deep left of Padres closer Heath Bell. This was Wright’s 21st home run of the season and the 118th of his career. The Mets captain finished the game against the Padres 3-5 with a double, home run, and two RBI. Wright has signed the top of this base, which bears the Shea Stadium Final Season logo, in blue marker, inscribing “1st Career Walk Off HR 8/7/08” below his signature.
