This impressively sized, two-sided grouping of sepia-photo likenesses, on a thick cardboard mount, was produced by a New York City studio photographer to display the company's image-making skill. The 9" x 13-3/4" board, which showcases 81 numbered depictions on each side, allowed customers to choose photo souvenirs in the rectangular form that inspired tobacco insert cards from the same era. A variety of individuals' portraits are seen on this relic, most notably actress Lillian Russell (7 photos on one side) and Civil War General Philip Sheridan (3 poses on the other). The highly visual piece concedes chipping and wear at the edges and corners of the mount, with the adhered photo sheets on both sides largely protected from evidence of circulation.
