Offered here is a flannel 1968 San Francisco Giants salesman sample jersey signed by the incomparable Willie Mays. Mays, a 24-time All-Star, was named the second-best baseball player of the 20th century by The Sporting News, behind only Babe Ruth. Mays was a true five-tool star, smashing 660 career homers with a .302 batting average, 338 stolen bases, 12 Gold Glove awards, and two National League MVP trophies. Mays retired after the 1973 season, and in 1979 was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
This offered salesman sample jersey is off-white, with “GIANTS” sewn across the chest in black felt over orange tackle twill. Mays’ iconic number “24” is sewn on the back of the jersey in black felt over orange tackle twill. The sleeves and collar are accented with an orange-black-orange band. This button-down jersey has four ventilation holes in each underarm area. A Wilson size “42” tag and a Wilson “1968 Set 1” tag are sewn on the front left tail of this jersey. Mays has signed the back inside collar in black marker. This iconic flannel is a terrific display piece from the career of the “Say Hey Kid”. This jersey comes with a LOA from Sports Investors Authentication for its authenticity as a salesman's sample and a LOA Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication for Mays' signature.
