One of the most respected catchers of the post-war period, the sheer joy Gary Carter’ received from playing baseball earned him the nickname “The Kid”. One of the most popular players in Montreal baseball history, Carter had a second career as the strong voice of reason and captain of the late 1980’s New York Mets teams. Carter helped guide the 1986 team to the World Series where his clutch single was instrumental in winning the fabled “Game 6”. He was league MVP twice and made the All-Star team 11 times and his Clemente Award attests to the man’s exemplary character. The crowning achievement to his 21 year career was when he was voted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003, the occasion marked by this commemorative bat. The special black Louisville Slugger is gold-stamped “GENUINE Gary Carter H.O.F. 2003”. The popular Expos and Mets receiver has signed the bat in contrasting silver ink and proudly added “HOF 2003”. Nine years later “The Kid” tragically passed away from a brain cancer at the young age of 57. PSA/DNA numbered sticker U28092 is affixed to the knob end. Certificate of Authenticity from PSA/DNA.
