After spending the previous five seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he helped lead them to a World Series title and National League pennant, Pete Rose signed a free-agent deal with the Montreal Expos for the 1984 season. At the age of 44, Rose was in hot pursuit of Ty Cobb’s all-time hit record as he entered the 1984 season with 3,990 hits, only 201 behind Cobb’s 4,191.

Rose played in 95 games for Les Expos in 1984, collecting 72 hits and wore this Rawlings size 44 button-down home Montreal jersey before being traded to his original team, the Cincinnati Reds on August 16th. With the limited amount of games played by Rose for Montreal, game used items from his Expos’ days are very rare. Offered is this Rawlings size 44 home Montreal Expos button-down jersey that was worn by Rose during the 1984 season. This beautiful white jersey features the Expos logo and “expos” sewn on in tackle twill on the upper right chest in blue, white and red. Rose’s number “14” is off-centered on the upper right chest in blue tackle twill. There are 2-inch ribbed material red and blue stripes that run vertically down the sleeves and down each side.

The back of the jersey has “ROSE” and “14” sewn on in blue tackle twill. On the inside front left tail are two tags – a red Rawlings size 44 tag with a “SET 2 1984” flag attached and a red tag with “Rose 84” embroidered in white. Capping off this impressive gamer is Rose’s signature in blue marker below the “expos” on the front of the jersey. This jersey displays moderate game use, is slightly toned and comes with a LOA from the game used experts at MEARS (315975), who have graded this jersey a perfect A10. Additionally, there is a LOA from JSA (Z77832) for Rose’s signature.
