The Hall of Fame spit-baller Burleigh Grimes began the 1934 MLB season with the St. Louis Cardinals, pitching in four games with the Senior Circuit ballclub before his release on May 15th. On May 28th, Grimes signed this offered contract with the New York Yankees, the 40-year old Grimes’ first American League squad. Grimes pitched in 10 games with the Yankees before his release in August, leading the 1931 World Series champion to finish out the season with the Pittsburgh Pirates, his first MLB team. This 1934 Yankees Uniform Player’s Contract is for the salary of $5,000 for the remainder of Grimes’ season. It has been signed in black pen by Grimes and William Harridge. The contract is accompanied by a LOA from JSA (Z62195) who have determined that the signature of Jacob Ruppert is secretarial and signed in the hand of Ed Barrow.
