JULY 19TH AUCTION

The 2-3/16" x 3-1/2" cards in this very rare, black-and-white issue were reportedly released by a Detroit photography company in 1922. The un-numbered, blank-backed cards feature a portrait or posed photograph of its subject, along with a facsimile autograph placed in the area of the player's head or shoulders. These cards are very fragile and very seldom surface, especially for the sets primary attraction, Ty Cobb. This example is hand cut, a slight waviness to the right edge, with a few light stains on the otherwise clean reverse. The W575-2 cards are highly desirable and appear on many advanced want lists.
