JULY 19TH AUCTION
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 7/20/2013
One of the premiere two-way players of his time, John Montgomery Ward won 164 games on the mound (including 47 in 1879), and belted out 2104 career hits. He was so adept that after he hurt his throwing arm (while running the bases), ending his pitching career, he taught himself to throw left handed so he could play the outfield. After his right arm recuperated, Ward then moved to be the everyday shortstop. This example of Ward’s portrait has even corner wear but has areas of paper loss, a horizontal crease and staining on the front and back. PSA Graded GOOD 2.
