Brooklyn Dodgers ace Johnny Podres wore this blue Dodgers cap circa 1955. The Witherbee, New York native was the first ever recipient of the World Series MVP award after leading the Dodgers to their only World Series title on the East Coast, defeating the New York Yankees in a seven-game set to close the 1955 MLB season. Podres threw a complete game to earn the win in Game 3 against the Yankees at Ebbets Field before closing out the series with a masterful complete-game shutout in Game 7 at Yankee Stadium to steer the Dodgers to a 2-0 victory. Podres would pitch 13 seasons for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers, winning 136 games and maintaining a sterling 3.66 ERA with Dem Bums.
This offered Dodgers cap has the Brooklyn “B” embroidered on the front in white, and Podres’ number “45” written on the headband in “fading ink” according to JT Sports. A Tim McAuliffe tag is sewn on the back sweatband of this size 7 1/8 cap. The brim is slightly cracked, but still fully intact. The cap is in “excellent condition” according to JT Sports, who have provided a LOA. Also included in this lot is an ungraded 1956 Topps #173 Johnny Podres card.
