Ichiro Suzuki collected the 3,000th hit of his Major League career during his Miami Marlins 10-7 win over the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field on August 7th, 2016. Ichiro recorded his milestone hit with a seventh inning triple off Rockies reliever Chris Rusin, scoring in the next at-bat on Jeff Mathis’ RBI single. Heading into the 2019 MLB season, the 45-year old Ichiro signed a minor league deal with the Seattle Mariners, looking to improve upon his 3,089 MLB hits. Between Japanese ball and the Majors, Ichiro entered 2019 with a staggering 4,367 base hits.
This offered Official Major League Robert D. Manfred Jr. baseball was used in the ninth inning of this Rockies-Marlins matchup. The ball was pitched by Fernando Rodney to Rockies second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who let the pitch go by for ball one. Ichiro has signed the sweet spot of this ball in blue pen, inscribing “3000” in addition to his signature.
