In 2010, the 19th FIFA World Cup was held in South Africa, the first time the world’s most prestigious international soccer tournament visited the African continent. Spain and the Netherlands reached the tournament final in Johannesburg, with blaugrana Andres Iniesta’s 116th minute goal handing Spain an extra-time victory over three-time World Cup Finals losers Holland. Diego Forlan, David Villa, Thomas Muller, and Wesley Sneijder tied for the tournament lead with five goals apiece, while the Uruguayan Forlan was named the tournaments best player.

Offered in this lot is a gold medal from the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. This medal measures approximately 2.25 inches in diameter. One side features a high relief etching that reads “2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa”, while the reverse side bears a high relief etching of the gleaming Jules Rimet Trophy. A blue FIFA ribbon is attached to this medal. The medal comes in the original Real Federación Española de Fútbol bag.
