Over a decade and a half after he left Boston for New York, Babe Ruth returned to where it all started. This time Ruth signed with Boston’s other team, the Braves. Ruth agreed to play one more season and then switch to a hoped-for managerial position. However, after a few weeks with the club, Ruth realized he was duped and there was no future with the Braves for him. Meanwhile, the Babe’s great talents on the field had greatly diminished. By May he was batting below .200 and he had decided to call it a career. This almost pristine postal card was signed by the Babe on May 14, 1935. The Braves lost to the Reds the previous afternoon (Ruth didn’t play) and had a much-needed day off on the 14th before beginning the last road trip of his career. Ruth apparently used the time to catch up on his fan letters as this card, signed “Sincerely Babe Ruth” in black pen has been postmarked Boston May 14, 1935. The side with Ruth’s signature shows toning especially around its edges but the Babe’s signature remains very strong and displays beautifully. A choice signature from Ruth’s final days as a player. The card is encapsulated by PSA/DNA (82015001) and graded a MINT 9.
