The 1980 Hockey team will forever be remembered for pulling off the greatest upset in US sports history. During the medal round in Lake Placid, the United States team, made up of amateurs and collegiate players, faced off against the powerhouse Soviet Union. The Soviets were heavy favorites to win the gold, having won almost every world championship and Olympic tournament in the last 35 years. With the game tied late in the 3rd period, Mike Eruzione would score the eventual game winner. As the game wound down, TV commentator Al Michaels would count down the final seconds and would ask "Do You Believe in Miracles? YES! "The Miracle on Ice" was complete. Considered the greatest sports moment in the 20th century, the United States would go on to beat Finland and win the Gold medal. The presence of Herb Brooks' signature makes this jersey special. Brooks died shortly after the signing of these jerseys. Later versions were signed without his key signature. The jersey also includes every other member of this historical team. Signatures include: Mike Eruzione, Jim Craig, Steve Christoff, Neal Broten, Mark Pavelich, Dave Silk, Mark Johnson, Phil Verchota, William "Buzz" Schneider, Mike Ramsey, Eric Strobel, Dave Christian, John Harrington, Jack O'Callahan, Bill Baker, Ken Morrow, Bob Suter, Mark Wells, Rob McLanahan, Steve Janaszak. The jersey is framed and ready to hang. A full JSA letter accompanies this item.
