The offered 1st Place Winner’s Medal, Awarded for Team Gymnastics at the 1908 London Olympic Games, comes housed in its original red box. The obverse of the medal features the victorious athlete being crowned by two emblematic females. The reverse features the figure of the patron Saint of England, St. George, slaying the dragon of legend. The horse, on which St. George is sitting, appears to be being lead by "Fame", represented here by a winged female. Page 34 of the 1908 Official Olympic Report states that 1st prize for the Gymnastics Team Competition would be 1 Gold Olympic Medal to the team and a Silver Olympic Medal to each member of the team. The medal presented here is one of those Silver 1st Place Olympic Medals given to an Olympic Champion 104 years ago. “Winner Gymnastic Teams” is engraved on the rim of the medal and OLYMPIC GAMES / WINNER / GYMNASTIC TEAMS / LONDON 1908 is stamped in gold on the lid of the box. Gymnastics is one of the most popular sports of the summer games which only serves to ehance the desirability of this medal. What would you have to pay to own one of the medals won in 1996 by the Magnificant Seven or one from the 2012 Fab Five? Here is your chance to obtain a truely rare piece of early Olympic history.
