This 51mm silver medal is the exact same design as the pewter participation medal that was presented to each athlete that competed in the 1908 London Olympic Games. The classic designs of the participation medal and the winners medal were created by Bertram Mackennal and two of the designs were used on future Olympic medals. The silver version of the medal, which is being offered here, was originally presented to A.T Heelas, who was an Umpire for the cycling events of July 16th, 1908. What makes this lot even more appealing is that the original presentation box comes with it. A true rarity for something 104 years old.
