The old adage “Defense wins championships” rang true after Super Bowl IV, when the stalwart Kansas City Chiefs defense forced the Minnesota Vikings to commit five turnovers during the 23-7 Kansas City victory in the mud of Tulane Stadium in New Orleans. The Kansas City defense featured five Hall of Famers, although quarterback Len Dawson earned MVP honors with an efficient 142 passing yards from only 12 completed passes.

This was an important upset at the time, as the football establishment remained convinced of the superiority of the NFL compared to the AFL. The Vikings were favored by 12 points over their AFL opponent, but no amount of praise or cajoling from coach Bud Grant could kick start the nascent Viking offense. However, the Vikings bounced back from this defeat, appearing in Super Bowls in 1973, 1974, and 1976 behind the strength of their “Purple People Eaters” defense. This ticket is the black variation, and it has been authenticated, encapsulated, and graded an VG – EX 4 by PSA/DNA (24018397). The ticket has a face value of $15.00 for the game played on January 11th, 1970 and the seat was in Section Q, row 41, seat 7.
