His career derailed by injuries, Gale Sayers only played in 68 NFL games, his last coming in 1971 at the age of 28. Yet in that too brief amount of time, “The Kansas Comet” left such an indelible mark on the game that he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1977. Sayers led the league in rushing yards per game three times, led the league in yards per rush in 1968 with an incredible average of 6.2 yards per carry, and finished his career with a lifetime mark of 5.0 yards per rushing attempt.
Offered here is a Herff Jones 10K gold Gale Sayers NFL Players Association ring, which features a large round CZ set above “NFL” on the face. In relief lettering, “PLAYERS ASSOCIATION” appears around the outside. One side of the ring displays the image of a football - being carried by a raised eagle - reading “NFL”. Below that shows “PLAYERS ASSOCIATION” along with a depiction of a linked chain. The opposite side is centered by an image of a football helmet with the number 40, above which is a banner displaying the name “SAYERS”. A football field is shown at the top with a linked chain at the bottom. The inside of the band is marked “HERFF JONES HJ 10K”. This ring is an approximate size 10 and weighs approximately 22.1 grams.
