Encapsulated and assessed Authentic by SGC. Hall of Famer. This unusual, blank-backed proof piece from the 1968 Topps issue features the St. Louis Cardinals' star hurler Bob Gibson. The full-color depiction, comparable to the as-issued portrayal, likely existed to allow editorial review of the Gibson collectible prior to full production. The offered card, perhaps hand-cut, concedes very little evidence of past handling but carries two graphite markings on its otherwise unprinted reverse. A very unusual and rare specialty piece!
