The 1921 Detroit Tigers ranks as one of the best hitting teams of all-time. Their .316 team average is the highest in AL history, 14 points better than the next best team in the league. Hit King Ty Cobb was the club’s manager and hit .389 – coming in second for the batting crown to his own teammate, Harry Heilmann who batted .394. This great candid Type 1 photo shows Ty Cobb and two of his coaches, Dan Howley and Paddy Livingston, talking over some strategy during spring training. The back of the 8x10 photo is stamp dated “Mar 25 1921” and has many printer marks and notations including a key to the players depicted. The edges of the photo are irregularly cut with wear visible along with overall toning which gives the print a warm hue. This photograph has been classified as a Type 1 photograph by PSA/DNA (1P10984) and a LOA will accompany this item.
