This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2019
Offered in this lot are two photographs of the Uruguayan men’s national soccer team before the finals of the 1928 Amsterdam Summer Olympics against Argentina. These photographs originate from the personal memorabilia collection of Uruguay goalkeeper Andres Mazali, the goalkeeper for Uruguay’s triumphs at both the 1924 and 1928 Olympics. In 1928, Uruguay defeated Argentina by an aggregate score of 3-2 after two fixtures at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam.
These two team photographs show members of the Uruguayan team, including the talismanic wing-half Jose Leandro Andrade, saluting the crowd with their arms raised. One photograph, with clipped corners, is mounted to a rigid backing measuring 10 x 8 inches. It has been signed on the reverse side by Domingo Lombardi, a Uruguayan referee at the 1928 Olympics, in black pen. The second photograph is unmounted, and measures 9.25 x 7 inches. A small piece of the photograph at the bottom border is missing. These photographs are stunning pieces of soccer history from Uruguay’s second Olympic triumph. These items come with a LOA confirming they are part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
