Offered in this lot are nine postcards and photographs relating to the Uruguayan national soccer team dating to the 1930-1950 era. Two photographs show the finely dressed Uruguayans traveling in the early 1920’s, while a second pair of photographs shows the Uruguayan team in action during the 1928 Olympics and an image of the 1928 Olympic final stadium. Writing and marking is present on the reverse sides of these photographs. Also included in this lot are two postcards from the 1928 Amsterdam Summer Olympics, where Uruguay won the soccer gold medal in a two-legged final over Argentina. Another postcard, dated to Paris in 1924, features extensive writing on the reverse and was sent from Paris to Montevideo. The front of this postcard shows the 1924 Olympic gold medalist Uruguay soccer team, including the legendary Jose Leandro Andrade. The penultimate item in this lot is a postcard from Uruguay’s Centennial in 1930. The final item in this lot is a hand-colored postcard of Alcides Ghiggia scoring the winning goal of the 1950 World Cup Final against Brazil’s goalkeeper Moacir Barbosa.
