Included in this lot are nine items from the life and career of the noted Uruguayan architect Juan Antonio Scasso. Scasso designed the resplendent Estadio Centenario and its iconic Torre de los Homenajes that dominates the Montevideo skyline. The Estadio Centenario was built in 1930 in record time for the inaugural FIFA World Cup in Montevideo and is still the national soccer stadium of Uruguay in the 21st century. Included in this lot are four architectural sketched blueprints from the Estadio Centenario. This intimate look at Scasso’s work provides a detailed glimpse into the mind of one of South America’s premier builders. The blueprints feature arithmetic and sketches made by the architects. One blueprint measures 38.25 x 16.5 inches and the remaining three measure 42 x 22 inches. These blueprints are in fair condition, exhibiting use and wear consistent with handled documents.
Additional items in this lot include three business cards and one postcard given to Sr. Scasso. Two of the business cards and the postcard feature extensive writing in Spanish, with the three items dated to March and May of 1930, just before the World Cup commenced. The business cards are from Jose Luis Scasso Alzaybar, Adolfo Larrobla, and Rodolfo L. Amargos. The final item in this lot is a bronze medal commemorating the 200th anniversary of the colonization of the Brazilian metropolis of Porto Alegre, home of the noted Brasileirão Série A team Sport Club Internacional. Etched in high relief on the front of the medal is an image of a colonial-era man and “Jeronimo de Ornelllas”, as well as the name “Natale”. Jerônimo de Ornelas Menezes e Vasconcelos was a native of Madeira influential in the founding of Porto Alegre in the 18th century. Etched on the other side of this medal is “1740-1940 / Bi-Centenario / Da / Colonizacao / De / Porto Alegre” and “Juan Scasso / Dir. De Pas. Publicos”. This medal measures 2.5 inches in diameter and is in good condition. These items come with a LOA confirming they are part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
