The 1950 World Cup Final between Brazil and Uruguay at the Maracanã Stadium has gone down as the most shocking result in soccer history. Known as the “Maracanazo”, the game finished 2-1 in favor of the monumental underdogs Uruguay. Alcides Ghiggia grabbed the deciding goal for la Celeste, cutting inside from the right wing to blast a low shot past Brazilian ‘keeper Moacir Barbosa to give Uruguay their second World Cup title in two World Cup appearances.
Offered in this lot is a framed panoramic photograph of the Maracana Stadium from the Brazil and Spain game in the World Cup final round. Brazil won this game by a decisive 6-1 margin thanks to a brace from Chico and a Spanish own goal in the 15th minute. Jair, Ademir, and Zizinho added the final strikes for Brazil, while Valencia and Real Sociedad striker Silvestre Igoa scored for Spain. This photograph was taken some time between Chico’s two goals in the 31st and 55th minutes, when the scoreline read Brazil three, Spain zero. This photograph measures 22.5 x 5.25 inches and is displayed in a 26 x 8.25-inch frame. Remnants of an inscription and signature are present on this photograph. Attached to the rear of this panoramic photograph is a ticket to the 1950 World Cup Final on July 16th, 1950. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
