The Hall of Fame right fielder Tony Gwynn wore this navy Padres batting helmet in 1998. Gwynn, a career .338 hitter, hit .321 with 16 homers, 69 RBI, and a scant 18 strikeouts. The fastidious student of hitting rapped out 148 knocks in 1998, finishing the year with 2,928 of his 3,141 career hits and the 14th of his 15 All-Star appearances. The Hall of Famer led the Padres to a 98-win season and his second career World Series appearance, where the Friars were finished by the New York Yankees in four games. Gwynn hit .500 in the World Series, collecting a home run and three RBI. Gwynn retired after the 2001 season and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.

This offered Padres batting helmet is navy, with San Diego’s familiar “SD” logo applied to the front. The ear flap is located over the right ear, and Gwynn has signed the brim of this helmet in silver marker. This helmet comes with a LOA from JT Sports and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication Services.
