Though some threatened, it wasn’t until 1961 that Babe Ruth’s single season home run record was finally broken. In one of the most exciting summers in history of the game, Roger Maris accomplished what all others could not when he launched number 61 into the right field seats at Yankee Stadium. Though the two men never met (Ruth passing away in 1948), one collector had the unique idea to link the two men together on this Marathon Sporting Good Official League ball. The Babe has signed and dated the sweet spot (10-13-43) in strong black fountain pen (8/10). Maris added his signature to the side panel below Ruth in blue ballpoint pen 6/10). While we see displays featuring separate Ruth and Maris signed balls frequently, this is an extraordinary opportunity to have both greats on the same ball. The ball has been encapsulated in a PSA/DNA holder.
