Offered in this lot is a silver Art Deco style medal presented to the Uruguayan right half Jose Leandro Andrade. One of Uruguay’s most decorated players, Andrade was widely regarded as the best player in the world during La Celeste’s 1924 and 1928 Olympic triumphs. The former carnival musician brought flair, speed, and creativity to Uruguay’s flanks, and despite playing in only one World Cup, Andrade was named as France Football’s 10th best player in World Cup history.

This square medal measures 1 1/8 x 6/8 inches and features a high relief etching of a soccer scene on the front. Etched on the reverse is “Primer Mundial FIFA 1930” and “Leandro Andrade Campeon Del Mundo”. This medal is in great condition. It is a fantastic relic from one of the World Cup’s forgotten heroes! This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
