French star Lucien Laurent scored the first goal in FIFA World Cup history on July 13th, 1930, against Mexico at the Estadio Pocitos in Montevideo, Uruguay. The diminutive winger scored the first goal of France’s 4-1 win over El Tri, in what would end up as the only victory of the tournament for Les Bleus. Laurent earned 10 caps for the French national team, scoring twice, and played for a host of French clubs, including CA Paris, Stade Rennais, Strasbourg, and Toulouse.

This offered medal was presented to Laurent by the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol (AUF) in honor of scoring the first World Cup goal. Etched in high-relief on the front is a scene of two players disputing a header, while the reverse side is etched with the text “A. U. de F. -A- Lucien Laurent” and “Primer Goal Mundial 1930”. This medal is in excellent condition. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
