French winger Lucien Laurent was presented with this medal by the Comision Administradura Del Field Oficial (CAFO), the organization responsible for administering the inaugural FIFA World Cup in Uruguay, for scoring the first ever goal in World Cup play. Laurent scored the opener in France’s 4-1 victory over Mexico to open the group stage of the tournament at the Estadio Pocitos in Montevideo, Uruguay. Laurent, who fought for the French Army in World War II after his soccer career ended, earned 10 caps for the French national team and played for a number of well-regarded domestic teams.

This offered medal is rectangular and features a high relief etching of the Tower of Homage at Estadio Centenario, the host stadium for many of the 1930 World Cup matches. Etched on the back of the medal is “Comision Administradura Del Field Oficial” and “Lucien Laurent”. This medal is in excellent condition. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
