After a 4-8 record the season before, the Vanderbilt Commodores improved to finish the 2016 regular season with a mark of 6-6 and make a bowl game appearance. Running back Ralph Webb was the team’s primary weapon, rushing for 1,283 yards – on a 5.1 yard per carry average – and 13 touchdowns. QB Kyle Shurmur threw for 2,409 yards. The Commodores finished their season with a loss to North Carolina State in the Independence Bowl.

Presented here is a Balfour-manufactured 2016 Vanderbilt Commodores Independence Bowl championship ring, featuring the team’s logo on a dark colored face, surrounded by CZs. “INDEPENDENCE BOWL” is displayed around the edges, along with additional CZs. An image of an anchor centers one side, with the name “WILLIAMS” above, for Joejuan Williams, who recorded 19 total tackles that season and who was a 2nd round selection in the 2019 NFL draft. The opposite side shows an enamel Independence Bowl logo, with “2016” at the top and “RTI” at the bottom. Inside of the band is engraved “Joejuan Williams” and also includes a “BAL CEL” mark. This ring is an approximate size 12 and weighs approximately 39.3 grams.
