United States midfielder Michelle Akers wore these black Nike cleats during the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup Finals against China in Pasadena’s Rose Bowl. Akers, a presence in the USWNT since their very first games in 1985, started and played the first 91 minutes against China in a match that finished 0-0 after 90 minutes of regular time and 30 minutes of extra time. It was Brandi Chastain who converted the game-winning penalty deep into the shootout, handing the United States an instantly iconic title. Forced off the pitch due to sheer exhaustion, Akers was nevertheless named the tournament Bronze Ball winner for her outstanding contributions to the USWNT midfield. Akers won the Golden Boot at the inaugural FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1991 and scored twice in the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup, including on a clutch penalty kick in the semifinals against Brazil. This was the second FIFA Women’s World Cup title for Akers, one of the most decorated players in United States soccer history.
These offered Nike cleats are black, with white and black Nike swooshes sewn on both sides of each cleat. A white Nike swoosh is applied to each lace guard. “WC Final 7-10-99” is handwritten in black marker on the sole of the right cleat. The cleats are size “7” and display excellent use. 13 black rubber studs are present on the sole of each cleat. These cleats come with a LOA signed by Michelle Akers. A portion of the proceeds shall benefit the Michelle Akers Horse Rescue & Outreach Inc.
