Hall of Famer Luke Appling had a successful run as a minor league manager and got his only Major League managerial job as a late-season replacement for Alvin Dark in 1967 with the Kansas City A’s. While the A’s finished last in the American League, Appling finished respectably while overseeing the emergences of Hall of Famers Jim “Catfish” Hunter and Reggie Jackson.

This offered Kansas City Athletics cap was worn by Appling in 1967. This now off-white cap features the interlocking “KC” embroidered in green. The cap displays excellent game use with dirt stains and toning throughout. The inner sweat band is made of a light brown plastic material and a Tim McAuliffe tag sewn on the back of the band. “PRO KM CAP” and “7 ¼” is stamped in black on the inner band. Appling’s number “44” is handwritten in black marker on the green underside brim. This hat has been signed by Jim “Catfish” Hunter in black marker on the top of the brim. A great gamer from a Hall of Famer signed by another Hall of Famer. This comes with a LOA from JT Sports for the game use and a LOA from Steve Grad of Beckett Authentication (A25477) for the signature.
