On September 9, 1965, Sandy Koufax became the first MLB pitcher to throw four no-hitters, and his record-setting accomplishment was a 1-0 perfect game victory over the Chicago Cubs in front of a relatively small crowd of 29,139 fans at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. With his perfect game, Koufax surpassed Bob Feller’s record of three no-hitters. Koufax’s record stood for 16 years, until Houston Astros fireballer Nolan Ryan pitched his fifth no-hitter on September 26, 1981, against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Offered is a Sandy Koufax signature on a 16 x 20-inch reproduction black and white photograph of Koufax after that game, holding two baseballs in each hand, each marked with the number “0”. The Associated Press photograph ran in newspapers across the country on September 10, 1965 and is a historic artifact of Koufax’s impressive Dodgers career. He has signed his name in black marker in the upper left corner of the photo. The photo is mounted in a black paper matte and displayed in a 23 x 27-inch black wood and glass frame.

Koufax's career peaked with a run of six outstanding years from 1961 to 1966, before arthritis in his left elbow ended his career prematurely at age 30. He was an All-Star for six seasons and was the National League's Most Valuable Player in 1963. He won three Cy Young Awards in 1963, 1965, and 1966, by unanimous votes, making him the first three-time Cy Young winner in baseball history. Koufax pitched 12 seasons for the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers from 1955 to 1966. He became the youngest player ever elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1972 at age 36. This item comes with a COA from Upper Deck Authenticated (BAJ85442), and an MLB Authenticated hologram (BB469556)
