In what was probably the best Bar Mitzvah present of 1941, Joseph Schenberg’s grandfather gave him this incredible autograph album. Known as “Gramps”, Peter Schenberg was known as MGM’s “Head Gatekeeper” and had access to every celebrity that came through the studio’s gates. In the year leading up to his grandson’s Bar Mitzvah, Gramps collected an incredible assortment of star autographs, most personalized to his grandson, whom he called “Jo-Jo”. Inside this time capsule can be found over 27 autographs of some of the era’s leading names: Spencer Tracy, Shirley Temple, Katherine Hepburn, Judy Garland, Gracie Allan, Virginia Weidler, Mickey Rooney, Bonita Granville, Mary McAvery, Marsha Hunt, Robert Young, Edward Arnold, Lee Bowman, Rosalin Russell, Walter Pidgeon, Leo Harris, Frank Morgan, Katheryne Grayson, Frank and Lew Borgage, Melvin Douglas and Gail Patrick. It was a one-of-a-kind gift that Jo-Jo always treasured and even added to, getting the Three Stooges and Pappy Chershire to autograph it later on. Condition is great, and though the cover binding has loosened with age, the interior pages are well preserved. The stars have signed directly onto the book’s multi-colored pages and various newspaper clippings are saved between its pages. A letter from Joseph (Jo-Jo) Schenberg accompanies the book, explaining its origins. A nice piece from Hollywood’s Golden Age. Pre-Certified by PSA/DNA.
