N173 Goodwin & Co. proof cards are actual N173 images affixed to various other cardboard mounts other than the Old Judge backings. This 4.5” x 6.125” image of Sam Moffet shows his pitching pose with “Moffet, P, Indpl’s” below and the standard “Copyrighted Goodwin & Co. NY 1888” printed in white. The image of Moffet is very crisp, has some light crazing across the surface and light edge wear. The 6.25” x 8” mount features a “Louis Oliver” brand at the bottom, with some staining along the right edge, and moderate back damage. Each corner has a nail hole, with three of the original metal fragments still embedded in the mount. The photo remains in Very Good condition with boldness and clarity.

NOTE: While this card is an actual N173 Goodwin and Co. image, this image was likely developed from a cache of original glass plate negatives found in Vermont a few years ago, known as the "Vermont Find." This image was determined to have been developed from those original negatives in the early part of the 20th Century, likely around 1915-1920. While not a period issue from the 1880s, this image is still almost 100 years old, and affixed onto an early 20th Century mount.
