The first fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier was billed at the “Fight of the Century,” and took place on March 8, 1971 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  It was the first time that two undefeated boxers fought each other for the heavyweight title. Frazier was the reigning WBC/WBA heavyweight champ (26-0, 23 knockouts) while Ali was The Ring magazine/lineal heavyweight champ (31-0, 25 Kos).  Frazier won in 15 rounds via unanimous decision. It was the first of three fights between the two, followed by the rematch fights Super Fight II (1974) and the Thrilla in Manila (1975), both won by Ali. Presented is a lot of two signed boxing gloves with the signatures of Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier. Ali has signed the right-hand Everlast boxing glove in black marker across the back, while Frazier has signed the left-hand glove in red marker across the back. Above Frazier’s signature, he has inscribed “The Fight of the Century”.  The red leather gloves each have a white cloth Everlast patch on the wrist, and black laces on the underside of the size “10” gloves.  Both items in this lot come with individual COAs from Steiner Sports.
