Portis rumbled for 148 yards in Washington’s 16-10 win, with the former Miami (FL) tailback opening the scoring with a 64-yard touchdown rush on his first carry with Washington. Portis added four catches for 15 yards as two late field goals for John Hall gave Washington a 1-0 start. Portis finished the 2004 season with 1,315 rushing yards and eight total touchdowns, including a touchdown pass to Laveranues Coles in a 17-10 win over the Detroit Lions.
