The Uruguayan soccer referee Domingo Lombardi used this whistle during the matchup between Spain and Italy during the 1928 Amsterdam Summer Olympics. The game, held at the Olympic Stadium in Amsterdam, finished 1-1 after Domingo Zaldua scored for Spain in the 11th minute before Adolfo Baloncieri equalized in the 63rd minute. The 1-1 score necessitated a second leg fixture three days after the draw to decide which nation advanced to the Olympic semifinals. Italy left no doubt to who was the better team, destroying La Furia Roja by a score of 7-3 in the second leg. Italy faced Uruguay in the semifinals, falling 3-2 to the eventual Olympic gold medalists. This offered whistle is nickel-plated and is attached to an approximately 8-inch long chain. The whistle is in good condition. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
