Presented in this lot is a towering and magnificent inkwell boasting a scale model of the Torre de los Homenajes (Tower of Homage) that dominates the Estadio Centenario in Montevideo, Uruguay. Designed by Juan Scasso for the 1930 World Cup, the Estadio Centenario is currently the only building in the world designated by FIFA as a “Monument of World Football”. This silver-plated bronze inkwell shows the Olympic Tribune of the Estadio Centenario, with the area that would be the soccer pitch flattened to form a writing surface. Two removeable inkwells flank the pitch area, with soccer ball-shaped lids closing over each inkwell. Please note that one of the lids is missing its fastener. Including the Torre de los Homenajes, this inkwell measures 25 inches tall. The base measures approximately 14 x 11 inches at its widest dimensions. This is a fantastic artifact from the home of the FIFA World Cup! This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
