Just one year after finishing with only 73 wins, the 1969 New York Mets – under manager Gil Hodges – turned in a truly memorable season. They recorded 100 victories during the regular season to win the National League East. Cleon Jones led the team with a .340 batting average, while Tommie Agee topped the Mets with 26 home runs and 97 runs scored. Tom Seaver was dominating on the mound, finishing with a 25-7 record and 2.21 ERA. Jerry Koosman went 17-9 with a 2.28 ERA, while reliever Tug McGraw recorded nine wins and 12 saves to go along with his sparkling 2.24 ERA. After a sweep of the Atlanta Braves in the National League Championship Series, the Mets capped off their amazing season by beating the Baltimore Orioles in five games to win the World Series.

Offered here is a 1969 New York Mets World Series championship ring presented to Nelson Burbrink. Burbrink was a former Major League player with the St. Louis Cardinals and joined the Mets as a scout after his playing days and after scouting for St. Louis. Burbrink was a scout for the Mets during the 1969 season and would later become the Director of Player Development with the club. This ring features a single round diamond set on a large blue colored stone. “NEW YORK METS WORLD CHAMPIONS 1969” reads in relief work around the bezel setting. One side of the ring is centered by an image of Shea Stadium, with pennants displayed above reading “EASTERN DIVISION”, “NATIONAL LEAGUE” and “WORLD SERIES”. Below the stadium is an image of a crown reading “METS VS. ORIOLES”. A Mets team logo centers the opposite side, with the name “BURBRINK” above and an image of a baseball cap at the bottom. A facsimile signature of “Nelson Burbrink” appears inside the band of this approximate size 11 ½ ring, while a Josten’s manufacturer stamp appears partially worn off. This ring weighs approximately 37.9 grams. This ring comes with a letter of provenance from the family of Nelson Burbrink, whose ring has been in the family’s possession since his passing in 2001.
