Graded MINT 9 by PSA. Among a total of 74 copies recorded in PSA's census reporting, just one, single example has been placed at a higher tier. The "National Game" baseball playing cards from 1913 have long been cherished in the hobby for their high-quality black-and-white photographic likenesses of the ballplayers, and their deep red, stylized cardbacks. The classic issue featured most of the time's great stars, including the offered portrayal of the storied 1919 "Black Sox" figure, Joe Jackson. This scarce and much sought-after piece has been preserved since its manufacture in a super-clean, wholly uncirculated state, and reveals absolutely splendid qualities of preservation on both front and back surfaces. Mint condition.

This is just one component in a substantial line-up of significant Joe Jackson items presented in this Winter 2020 sale. Vintage trading cards featuring "Shoeless Joe" – the most important figure involved in the forever-fascinating "Black Sox" scandal surrounding the 1919 World Series – are scarce, avidly sought-after mementos of one of baseball's legendary figures.
