Derek Jeter had one of the best games of his Major League Baseball career on July 9, 2011, batting 5-for-5 in a 5-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays at Yankee Stadium. But the big knock came in his second at-bat of the day, when he worked Tampa pitcher David Price to a full-count in the bottom of the third and slugged a home run to deep left field. He became only the second player to reach 3,000 hits with a homer, following former teammate Wade Boggs, who did it in 1999. The five-hit day tied a career-high for Jeter, and he joined Craig Biggio as the only two players to notch five hits on the same day they joined the 3,000-hit club.
Presented is a Derek Jeter signed Louisville Slugger P72 game-model black wood bat. The former Yankees captain has signed his name in silver marker on the barrel of the bat. The bat is inscribed “3000th Hit Saturday, July 9, 2011” in an unknown hand in silver marker below Jeter’s signature, and “18/200” on the top of the bat. This item comes with a COA from Steiner Sports, and an MLB Authenticated hologram (FJ405557).
