Presented is a 19th century shaving mug with a baseball theme. The 3½-inch circumference porcelain mug has a color illustration of a baseball game, with a player catching a ball while a runner slides into a base, with four other players in the field as background. The illustration is glazed into the white mug opposite the handle of the 3½ -inch high mug with a scalloped base. There are wear marks at the side of the illustration where some of the gold scroll border has been worn away by use. There is a small black mark on the lip of the mug over the illustration, and some black and brown stains on the underside of the mug. Shaving mugs were often particular to one customer of a barber shop and were kept on display, ready for their next use by the barber with his customer.
