Graded NM-MT 8 by SGC. Hall of Famer. This is the only example at its tier (with none graded higher) among a total of thirty-two copies recorded in SGC's census reporting. Overwhelming purity of color and sharpness of image distinguish this lush and memorable "Iron Horse" collectible. This enticing and seldom-encountered 1933 Lou Gehrig memento hails from the Canadian counterpart to the R319 Goudey baseball issue sold in the United States during that same year. (The scarcer and intriguing specialty version of Goudey's "Big League Gum" issue is easily identifiable by the "World Wide Gum Co., Ltd." branding found on this item's reverse.) On this exemplary specimen, extraordinarily clean blue and a textured batter's box act as backgrounding for the form and shadow of the great Yankee's depiction. Even Gehrig's gentle smile is easily discernible on this remarkable cardfront, and his impossibly fine uniform pinstripes are bold and fully resolved. Nicely defined corners reveal only the faintest vestiges of circulation at the outermost aspects. The green-and-white cardback displays bright, precise inking of each character. Near Mint to Mint condition, with especially praiseworthy visual appeal.
