By 1964, Braves slugger Eddie Mathews had been through more than a decade of hard-nosed baseball. Years of beanballs, takeout plays at third base and late-night exploits had begun to show on the home run legend. Yet despite all those factors, Mathews still wielded a potent bat, hammering 23 of his eventual 512 career home runs during the 1964 season. Eddie’s 1964 Hillerich & Bradsby S2 model bat is un-cracked and exhibits outstanding use. Many ball marks with black ink transfers are found all over the barrel and the surface appears to have been scrubbed. The model number “S2” is stamped into the knob and the Hall of Famer has signed the barrel in blue marker, adding, “HOF 78 512 HR’s.” This bat comes with a LOA from PSA/DNA (1B14934) for the game use and a LOA from JSA for the signature.
