Presented is a President Grover Cleveland handwritten and signed letter, dated May 11, 1890, written in response to his not being able to attend the dedication ceremonies for the James A. Garfield Memorial in Cleveland, Ohio on May 30, 1890.  Cleveland, the only president in American history to serve two non-consecutive terms in office (1885–1889 and 1893–1897), was the 22nd and 24th president. He has written in black pen on the two-page letter on white 5 x 8-inch four-page letterhead with “816 Madison Avenue” in blue type. The note is folded in half and tipped-in on a 9 x 13 ivory paper folio with the title “Grover Cleveland Twenty-second President 1837-1908” in black type on the front cover. Please note that there is slight separation on the crease fold of the ivory paper folio, but it does not affect the letter or signature. The folio has three inscriptions in gray graphite pencil on the front cover below the title. This item comes with a LOA from JSA.
