Uruguay’s captain and center back Jose Nasazzi was presented with this gilt silver medal in honor of leading la celeste to victory at the inaugural FIFA World Cup in 1930. Held in Montevideo, the World Cup saw a meeting of Uruguay and Argentina in the final match, with Uruguay decisively claiming a 4-2 victory over their neighbors and rivals. Nasazzi was a rock in the Uruguay backline, not allowing a goal in the group stages and only three in the tournament in total.
This offered medal is irregularly shaped, with an image of two soccer players contesting a ball etched in high relief on the front. Etched on the back is “1er Campeonato Mundial de Football -A- Jose Nasazzi Capitan” and “Montevideo 1930”. This vintage medal is a fantastic artifact from Uruguay’s first World Cup title. This item comes with a LOA confirming it is part of the Rony Almeida Soccer Collection.
