Mario Kempes led Argentina to the 1978 World Cup title on home turf, defeating the Netherlands 3-1 after extra time at the Estadio Monumental in Buenos Aires to win the FIFA World Cup Trophy. Kempes won the Golden Boot with six goals scored in the tournament, including two in the final match against the Oranje. Kempes also won the Golden Ball as the tournament’s best player, joining Garrincha as one of two players at the time to claim both the Golden Ball and Boot at the same World Cup.
This offered plaque is silver and mounted on a marbled background. The plaque features an enameled AFA logo and the 1978 FIFA World Cup logo. It is etched with “Asociacion del Futbol Argentino / Argentina Mundial 1978 / 1 De Junio - 25 De Julio / Sr. Presidente Alfredo Francisco Cantilo / A / Mario Alberto Kempes / Goleador”.
